Episode #16: Margeaux Maloney
Hello and welcome back to the Dominic Brancazio Podcast! In this episode we are joined by Margeaux Maloney. Margeaux is a great friend of mine and I’m so happy she was able to join me for this talk. She is a violin fellow with the New World Symphony, Associate Concertmaster with the Reno Chamber Orchestra and has performed as a substitute musician in some of the best orchestras across the country including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Kansas City Symphony.
In today’s conversation, we dive back into discussing practice strategies covering her instrument the violin. We also detail how she got started in music, ways people can approach their instrument to get back into a busy orchestra schedule, how she applies stretching before and after practicing, how to pace yourself depending on your schedule, playing in a violin section, and Margeaux also has graciously talked about ways she overcame a performance injury. I think this last point in the talk is good to hear from a professional because far too often musicians try to “play through the pain” making a problem even worse. I hope people can find some reassurance that there are ways of going about solving performance playing injuries by hearing her perspective.
