Episode #13: Amelia del Caño
Hi and welcome back to the Dominic Brancazio Podcast! In this episode we are joined by my friend Amelia del Caño. Amelia is a bassoon fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida, and is also an award winning musician in the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition. In today’s conversation, we continue our quest to talk about different practice strategies for all of the instruments in the orchestra. In addition to sharing her insight into warming up and practicing, Amelia and I talk about how she got into her career in music, how she approaches making reeds, how she prepares for competitions, and about her recent experience playing in the National Repertory Orchestra music festival in Breckenridge, Colorado. If you want to learn more about Amelia, I left some links to find out more in the description below.
As an added bonus for all of the listeners, Amelia has graciously shared a link to her performance of Translations by Natalie Moller, and a copy of her handout titled “Rules for Effective Practice” that is discussed in more detail in the episode. I love the handout she mentions because it has a lot of wisdom on quality practice and keeping a strong and healthy mindset. I highly recommend checking it out. This was so much fun catching up with Amelia in this talk and I think you all will find it engaging too. Thank you for listening and please enjoy the show!
