Episode #12: Antonio Escobedo

Welcome back to the Dominic Brancazio Podcast! In this episode, we are joined by my friend Antonio Escobedo. Antonio is a double bassist with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida, and in today’s conversation, Antonio and I start off a new segment on this podcast talking about practice strategies for all of the instruments in the orchestra. In each episode of this particular segment, we’ll highlight one musician’s general approach to practicing and share the aspects that make their instrument unique while also highlighting approaches that can be applied to other instruments at well. I think it’s very valuable to get a lot of point of views on how to practice and there is so much everyone can learn from hearing the different perspectives on every instrument.

Antonio is a wonderful friend and a fantastic bass player, so this is a great way to start off the show talking all about the double bass! Some of the topics Antonio and I cover in the episode are how he got into music, some of his approaches to practicing things like scales, information about his equipment, a little bit on preparing for auditions, and traveling with the instrument.

If you want to find out more about Antonio or some of the work he’s been up to, I have attached some links to learn more in the description below. As an added bonus for this episode, Antonio and I at the very end of the podcast also talk about anime and why it’s awesome.... Nothing really double bass related, but still fun to talk about. As always, thank you for checking the show out and I hope you all enjoy!
