Episode #34: Rebekah Daley

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Dominic Brancazio Podcast where we talk about all things classical music. Today we have a very special guest! Joining us in this episode is my friend Rebekah Daley. Rebekah is the Principal Horn player of the North Carolina Symphony and in this conversation we talk about her career being a principal horn player and about different ways we as musicians can maintain a balance between work and other aspects of life.

We specifically go over how she got into music, we discuss taking auditions, about the different aspects of her job outside of playing her instrument, what it means to be in different orchestra committees, her approach to negotiating, different ways to maintain a healthy balance between playing professionally and having other activities outside of work, and we also talk about some cool hobbies she has as well.

If you would like to learn more about Rebekah’s upcoming concerts, please check out the link in the description below. This was so exciting having Rebekah on this podcast! She has played a very important role in my professional career and I am always learning new things from her every opportunity I get a chance to work with her. I think a lot of the topics we bring up are going to be especially useful for people just starting their careers in classical music. It can be really challenging just starting out, but I hope getting a chance to hear Rebekah’s wisdom on some of the topics will give a reassuring and refreshing perspective that can help people when navigating their own journeys. I’m very grateful for her to be a part of this podcast and I hope you all enjoy this conversation. Thank you for listening and please and enjoy the show.
