Episode #32: Celia Daggy
Hi everyone and welcome back to the Dominic Brancazio Podcast. In this episode we’re joined by my friend Celia Daggy. A graduate of Boston University, Celia is a professional violist and was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, a member of The Orchestra Now based at Bard College, was an acting member of the viola section in the North Carolina Symphony, and now is the recently appointed Principal Violist of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
In this episode we talk about auditioning for orchestras and highlight how Celia prepared for her most recent win with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. We specifically go over how Celia got into playing the viola, how she began doing more auditions when she was in college, going over her mindset leading up to her auditions, how she learned from previous audition experiences, how she prioritized what repertoire to practice, her approach to mock auditions, what it was like for her on the day of her Virginia Symphony Orchestra audition, and practical ways of handling stress

I had such a wonderful time getting the chance to sit down with Celia in this episode! Taking auditions is a huge part of being a classical musician and they can be very challenging. I hope you all can glean some insight into how one can successfully navigate through the process from listening to Celia’s experience. Her gratitude and love for music really shines in this episode and I look forward to hearing all the wonderful things she will do with music as she moves to the next chapter of her career. Thank you all for listening and I hope you please enjoy the show.
